Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was sentenced to prison last month on corruption charges, has had his supporters compare the sentencing process to that of President Donald Trump, in light of the way he is being persecuted by authorities in Pakistan. Many have linked his situation to Trump and blamed the government for jailing the popular former prime minister. Khan’s plight has also been highlighted by longtime Trump ally and adviser Richard Grenell, who campaigned on social media late last year to free Imran Khan. A Pakistani court has sentenced Khan and his wife Bushra Khatun to 14 and seven years in prison for corruption. They were convicted of allegedly taking land as bribes through the Al-Qadir Trust and establishing a top-notch university there for poor students. However, Khan, maintaining his innocence, has made interesting remarks about the sentences handed down by lower courts in exclusive comments to Fox News Digital. Imran Khan is facing more than 100 cases, which he is facing. In response to questions from Fox News Digital about Khan’s conviction, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, defended Khan’s conviction by the lower court. The £190 million case is one of the biggest corruption cases in Pakistan’s history and is a major scandal in which former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been found guilty. This is evidence that they not only used their official positions to give illegal favors to a property tycoon, he added. This is corruption of the highest level and the former Prime Minister has been convicted based on irrefutable evidence of corruption. Khan has denied the allegations and said that his 2023 arrest and subsequent conviction were a conspiracy to prevent him from returning to political office.
The answers to Fox News Digital’s questions came through a spokesperson for former Prime Minister Khan. Khan noted the similarities between himself and Trump, saying that both have faced similar experiences. Today, the world needs steadfast leadership that is a champion of peace, democracy and human rights, and I hope that his leadership can contribute to that vision. Trump and Khan’s experiences with government officials in both countries have key similarities and their stories mirror each other, even beyond that. While Trump transformed the American political landscape with his Make America Great Again movement, Imran Khan mobilized ordinary Pakistanis with his Naya Pakistan vision, and like Trump, Khan dismantled the political elite, focusing instead on the average person. Khan told Fox News Digital that his political party is an ideological party that represents the diverse fabric of Pakistan. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was initially perceived as a party of educated elites who wanted change, but the public response soon dispelled that notion. “We have transformed the PTI into the largest political party in Pakistan, which includes people from all walks of life. This is because our policies prioritize merit and justice,” he added. “We represent all provinces, castes and religions, ensuring that every voice has a place in shaping the future of Pakistan, which unites Pakistan under the principles of equality and justice.” Zaheer Ahmed, a waiter in Lahore, told Fox News Digital. “Imran Khan has become the voice of a diverse crowd from all ethnic groups and religious sects. We have never seen a leader who has such grassroots support. That is the beauty of him and we are confident that he will return to power and make the country better.”
