Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has said that the only difference with Afghanistan is the presence of the Taliban movement there and the spread of terrorism in Pakistan from across the border. According to a statement issued by the Pakistani Army’s Public Relations Department (ISPR), the Army Chief visited Peshawar, during which he met the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which the Federal Minister of Interior and other officials were also present. According to the Pakistani Army Spokesperson, General Asim Munir said that no large-scale operation is being carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nor is the Taliban in any area of Pakistan. Only targeted operations are carried out in the province based on intelligence. According to the ISPR, General Asim Munir said that if there is a state, there is politics, God forbid, if there is no state, then nothing will remain. Everyone will have to stand together against terrorism without discrimination and prejudice. When we move together, the situation will improve soon. It should be noted that due to public resistance against the military operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistani army has suffered heavy casualties in recent months in the fight against the Taliban. The Pakistani Air Force has also attacked Pakistani Taliban bases inside Afghanistan, which has increased tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In response, the Afghan Taliban’s Kabul government has reacted strongly and said that women and children were also killed in the serious attacks by the Pakistani Air Force and that there were no militants of the Pakistani Taliban movement there. The Afghan Taliban leaders are accusing Pakistan of supporting ISIS. Iran has also made a similar accusation and has also attacked an alleged ISIS base in Balochistan, to which Pakistan has also responded forcefully. If there is even the slightest truth in this accusation, then this will be another dangerous move by the Pakistani military establishment, which will result in further increase in terrorism. The banned Taliban movement in Balochistan has established ties with Baloch separatists and the banned organizations are conducting joint operations.
After the tension with Afghanistan, Afghan transit trade has decreased by more or less 70 percent and now Afghanistan has planned to use Iran’s Chabahar Port as an alternative for transit trade. It should be remembered that India has resolved its differences with Iran on the issue of the construction of Chabahar Port and has started investing in this project again so that India can access Central Asian states including Afghanistan through this port. Pakistan’s decision-making military and civilian rulers, out of love for the religious forces of Afghanistan and the desire to bring them to power, destroyed their country and labeled themselves a terrorist country. It is this religious leadership that does not recognize the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan and adopts an expansionist policy against Pakistan. India, which strengthened the Babur Karmal and Najib governments and also provided military support, and provided military and financial support to the governments that Pakistan set up to overthrow the Afghan Mujahideen and later the Taliban, but the Taliban preferred India over Pakistan in both their terms. People know very well that Afghans prefer India to Pakistan. Either blame the Afghan Taliban for their obliviousness or Pakistan’s settlement policies. Pakistan has not benefited from Afghanistan while Afghans have always preferred India. The Ojri camp tragedy occurred in the midst of helping Afghans. People may have forgotten, but ask the heart of former Prime Minister Khaqan Abbasi, whose father was killed in a rocket attack at Islamabad airport. It was Sunday morning, April 10, 1988, when the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were shaken by a powerful explosion at 9:50 am. This gift was also the result of our former generals’ romance with their Afghan friends. Whenever Pakistan’s ruling class obeyed American orders and kept an eye on temporary gains, it sacrificed its values and ideology.
It is impossible to deny the truth that Islamabad cannot afford the deterioration of Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan. The deterioration of relations between the two countries will have the greatest impact on the people of the country’s third largest province. Apart from terrorism, the social relations of this province with other parts of the country may be affected. The views of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be given great importance at this time regarding relations with Afghanistan. Perhaps this is the reason why the Chief of Army Staff himself reached Peshawar and took Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur into confidence. The sabotage of the Taliban movement and the clash with the state army are a reality and it is necessary to counter it and root out the saboteurs. No force should be allowed to violate the constitution and law with the help of weapons. Pakistan must prepare a nationally agreed plan of action and for this, along with negotiations, it is also necessary to give a befitting reply to the saboteurs. The deaths of army personnel are a cause of grief and sorrow for any Pakistani. We must adopt methods that cause the least loss of life and property to the army. At this time, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has many complaints against the army and needs to listen to them. Most of the people in the crowd that was shot at by state institutions on November 26, 2024, belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is the second largest base of PTI after Punjab. There would be no apocalypse if this crowd had spent the night there. The army chief can rekindle sympathy for the army among the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by accepting the demand for an investigation into the November 26 tragedy. If this suggestion is implemented, rest assured that Pakistan will be able to cope with the deterioration of relations with Afghanistan in a better way.
