According to the Washington Post, the American technology company Google has worked directly with Israel and provided the occupying government with access to AI services since the start of the war against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. Documents obtained by the Washington Post state that Google employees provided the Israeli Ministry of War and the occupation forces with access to Google’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology in order to defeat its rival Amazon. The US Daily quoted a Google employee as saying that if the company did not provide more access soon, Israel would turn to Google’s cloud rival Amazon, which also works with Israel under the Nimbus agreement. Google had fired more than 50 employees for opposing Israel’s support for crimes against humanity, who protested against the company’s multi-billion dollar Nimbus project with the Israeli government at its offices in New York and California. Some of the protesters were also arrested. The documents obtained by the Washington Post did not indicate how the Israeli military used Google’s artificial intelligence capabilities. Used in a way that can automate administrative tasks far from the front lines, the Israeli government was forced to agree to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas on Sunday, January 19, 2025, ending more than fifteen months of relentless aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Earlier this month, former US President Joe Biden’s administration proposed an $8 billion arms deal to the Israeli government in recognition of Washington’s unwavering support for the occupation’s genocidal war in Gaza. Washington is Israel’s largest ally and arms supplier, and has repeatedly vetoed UN Security Council resolutions on a ceasefire in Gaza. More than 47,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 112,000 injured in Israel’s brutal assault on the besieged territory since October 7, 2023. The death toll continues to rise as families return to the ruins of their former homes after the ceasefire and search for the bodies of their loved ones. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported that nearly 10,000 bodies are still missing under the rubble.
