US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday imposing sanctions in response to the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue red warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister. It should be recalled that in October 2023, the International Criminal Court issued red warrants for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yvonne Gallant after investigating the Israeli army’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Netanyahu took an air route for his visit to Washington that was outside the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. Member states of the International Criminal Court are obliged to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister as soon as he enters their airspace. It should be noted that the United States and Israel are not members of the International Criminal Court nor do they recognize it. The usurper Israel is a close ally of the United States and has strongly opposed the aforementioned decision of the International Criminal Court, but the Biden administration did not issue any order against the court due to Israel’s refusal to agree to a ceasefire. Despite this, tens of thousands of Palestinians, including children, were killed during the Israeli army’s genocide. They are gone.
The order signed by Trump accuses the ICC of engaging in unlawful and baseless actions targeting the United States and its close ally Israel, and of abusing its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yuvraj Gallant. The order states that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the United States or Israel, and that the court has set a dangerous precedent with its actions against both countries. President Donald Trump’s move came as Netanyahu was visiting Washington. He and Trump held talks at the White House on Tuesday, and Netanyahu spent part of Thursday with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The order states that the United States will impose sanctions with concrete and serious consequences on those responsible for the ICC’s mistakes. The actions could include freezing property and assets and barring ICC officials, employees and relatives from entering the United States. Human rights Activists said the US intention to impose sanctions on court officials would run counter to US interests in other conflict zones where the court is investigating.
Charlie Hoegel, staff attorney for the National Security Project at the American Civil Liberties Union, said that victims of human rights violations around the world turn to the International Criminal Court when they have nowhere else to go, and President Trump’s executive order will make it harder for them to seek justice. The order also raises serious concerns for American ideals of justice because it increases the difficulty for United States courts to recognize and investigate atrocities committed anywhere and by anyone. Hoegel said that President Trump’s order is an attack on both accountability and freedom of expression.
Like Israel, the United States is not among the 124 members of the International Criminal Court, which has fueled suspicions around the world about America’s nefarious intentions against humanity. A 2002 US law allows the Pentagon to release any American or US ally held by the court. In 2020, Trump imposed sanctions on Fatou Bensouda, the predecessor of Karim Khan, the International Court’s chief prosecutor, over her decision to open an inquiry into US and NATO war crimes in Afghanistan. However, those sanctions were lifted under President Joe Biden and the US began to cooperate more gently with the tribunal, especially when Khan accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of war crimes in Ukraine in 2023.
The US sanctions against the International Criminal Court could make it difficult for court officials and its investigators to travel, and the US ability to destroy evidence could cripple the International Criminal Court from delivering justice. It should be remembered that the court suffered a major cyberattack last year that left employees unable to access files for weeks. The basis of America’s anti-human ambitions is the pursuit of power and superiority, and it should be remembered that the usurper Jewish government of Israel is its leader.
