Iran’s ruling party is not happy with President Masoud Pezzekian, but rather has become somewhat angry. President Pezzekian considers good relations with the West to be the solution to Iran’s development and economic problems. In 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed with the United States, China, Russia and Western countries, which was unilaterally canceled by US President Donald Trump in 2018 under pressure from Israel and Saudi Arabia during his first presidential term, although the JCPOA could not be fully implemented. President Masoud Pezzekian and his team made the strategy of building good relations with the West the main axis of their foreign policy to deal with the economic and political problems facing Iran and started negotiations with the United States through indirect and non-traditional diplomatic channels, but the cunning and duplicitous policy of the United States did not allow President Pezzekian’s sincere desire to be fulfilled. The successive resignations of two important members of Pezzekian’s trusted team, Minister of Finance and Economy Abdolnaser Hemati and Vice President and former Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, have led to a sharp decline in Tehran’s politics. It has created a stir in the country and internal differences are becoming very clear. According to an important and informed figure in Iran, President Masoud Peshkeskyan is expected to resign after Nowruz (the beginning of the Iranian year). If this happens, problems for Israel in the Middle East will increase. The Iranian ruling and military establishment are beginning to understand that President Dr. Masoud Peshkeskyan cannot solve the problems facing the country. He is not being given the environment to solve serious economic problems during his first presidential term, which are currently directly related to relations with the West. The sanctions imposed by the United States and Western countries against Iran have increased Iran’s economic problems and the current economic situation is so dire that the Iranian people have cried out. In Iran, which was considered an example of peace and order in the region, financial corruption has increased. Moral decline has changed the direction of society. It has become difficult for the business community to do business. The dollar’s flight against the rial is reaching the sky with each passing day, while President Masoud Peshkeskyan’s government is not being given a suitable platform to correct the system. Not available.
US President Donald Trump, on the one hand, indirectly engaged Iran in informal talks through his diplomatic team, and on the other hand, imposed new sanctions on Iranian crude oil exports. This situation created difficulties for the government of Dr. Masoud Peshkeskyan, and within two days, two important members of President Peshkeskyan’s team had to resign. There are recent reports that indirect negotiations with the US to lift the sanctions have not reached any conclusion because, in addition to limiting the nuclear program, Iran is also looking at its developing missile program with a sinister eye. The increasing demands of the Trump administration have further complicated relations with Iran. President Trump is prioritizing Israel’s appeasement in order to further weaken the resistance against Israel.
Instead of strengthening the resistance forces in Syria and Lebanon, President Masoud Peshkian’s government has fallen victim to American tricks. Iran failed to stop the armed advance of Golani’s Tahrir al-Sham against the Bashar al-Assad government because Dr. Masoud’s government was in ideological disarray. On the one hand, he is against Israeli atrocities, which are being supported by the United States and some European countries, while on the other hand, he is distancing himself from the resistance forces at the request of the United States. Masoud Peshkian considered it better to retreat instead of saving the Damascus government because Bashar al-Assad’s army had been sold and the buyer was not the United States but Turkey, which is a member of the NATO alliance. When the July armed movement was advancing towards Damascus, the Iranian defense force was recalled from Syria. Those familiar with the situation say that the Iranian soldiers had to leave Syria without hot food, while those fighting with the proxies of the United States and Israel were left helpless in Syria. However, Hezbollah, which is an organized resistance force, correctly assessed the situation in advance and prepared to leave Syria ahead of time. This situation angered the Iranian authorities and the conservative Iranian people, and the circle around the reformist president began to tighten. Meanwhile, another serious mistake made by the Pezzekian government was that they assured the Iranian authorities that US President Trump would not impose sanctions on Iran during informal talks, and when Trump imposed new sanctions on Iran, Masoud Pezzekian’s team faced pressure.
Javad Zarif, who is engaged in informal talks with the United States, was trying hard to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, but Trump’s demands are increasing. He wants to bring Iran to its knees like other countries in the world, but Iranians are different from Arabs. In 2018, when Trump demanded that Iran’s missile program be included in the JCPOA, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif indicated that he would continue talks with the Americans, but the United States, out of nefarious intentions, hastened and canceled the nuclear deal that was signed by US officials. Javad Zarif faced severe criticism for this failure, after which he resigned from the post of Iranian Foreign Minister in February 2019, but President Rouhani did not accept his resignation. It is not normal for Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif to resign from the post of Vice President one by one, which illustrates the political turmoil in Tehran. According to Iranian state media, something big could happen soon. Masoud Pezhakian received Javad Zarif’s resignation, but no final decision has been made yet. After resigning, Javad Zarif revealed that he and his family had faced serious accusations, threats, and insults. He said that the head of Iran’s judiciary advised him to resign, which he did. It is clear that Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian president’s strategic foreign policy advisor and a prominent advocate of dialogue with the West, has resigned after intense pressure from hardline opponents.
Dr. Javad Zarif served as Foreign Minister in Hassan Rouhani’s government from 2013 to 2021. He played a key role in the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, making him a prominent diplomat on the global stage. His resignation is being described as a major shift in Iranian politics, and observers say it could have repercussions on Iran’s domestic and foreign policy. The former foreign minister is the face of reformist-backed talks with Western powers. Confirming his resignation in an online post early Monday, Zarif said that this was the most bitter period of his 40-year service. He said that he had been advised by the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eji, to resign and return to his teaching job at the university to prevent further pressure on the government during a turbulent period in the country.
Earlier, the Iranian parliament removed the finance minister from office for failing to control rising inflation and the continuous decline in the value of the national currency. Indian media quoted Iranian state television as saying that Iran’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Abdolnaser Hemmati, was removed from office through a vote of no confidence in parliament. 182 out of 273 members of parliament voted against Abdolnaser Hemmati. Last Sunday, the value of one US dollar was 920,000 rials, while in mid-2024, one dollar was worth 600,000 rials. Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian defended Abdolnaser, telling members of parliament that the current economic problems of society do not belong to any one individual, nor can we hold a single individual responsible for them. On the other hand, members of parliament expressed strong displeasure and held Hemmati responsible for the country’s economic problems. A member of parliament, Ruhollah Motafker Azad, said in his statement that the people cannot tolerate the new wave of inflation, and the increase in the value of foreign currency and the prices of goods should be controlled. Another member of parliament, Fatemi Mohammad, said that the situation has become such that people are unable to buy medicines and medical equipment. It should be noted that Masoud Peshkeshian assumed the office of president in July last year with the determination to revive the economy and lift some Western sanctions, but he has still failed to implement his ambitions. The value of the Iranian rial continues to fall and inflation continues to increase, which the members of parliament have expressed by removing the Minister of Finance and Economy from his post through a vote of no confidence. Opponents see the former head of the central bank and unsuccessful presidential candidate as a dangerous influence on the Iranian economy and have accused him of deliberately weakening the national currency to attract short-term liquidity to cover a large budget deficit. Nasser Hemmati denied the allegations and said that he was a foreign currency trader. Fighting a system that has fostered corruption for many years, the New Year celebrations in Iran are 16 days away, which is increasing market and shopping activities, inflation has reached an incredible level of about 35 percent and the value of the Iranian rial is decreasing, this situation creates a space for enemies like the United States and Israel to create unrest in the country and create threats to the system.
